Making a Splash
Kendra Grant
Swimming through the ocean’s deep
dolphins race me as they leap
in and out of the plundering waves.
A beating in my chest as the sand
approaches, telling me to step on land
and leave behind my tail and caves.
My foot sinks into unstable ground
as I tread onto my newfound
path. My infant soul burns as it craves
freedom in the unknown.
There are new skills to hone
as I journey, worlds to brave
Anderson warns in prose
about my fresh soul and toes –
Just don’t turn to sea foam
